Students feted by Kansas Authors Club judges

From left: Emersyn Funk, fourth-grade daughter of Jeff and Carisa Funk.Four Hillsboro students were feted Oct. 4 by the Kansas Authors Club during the organization?s annual convention and writing conference in Wichita. The four girls submitted literary entries for a writing contest that may appear in a book printed for the KAC by Mennonite Press in Newton. The girls are (from left): Emersyn Funk, fourth-grade daughter of Jeff and Carisa Funk, who received third place for a nonfiction piece titled ?My Gluten-Free Life;? Abigail Driggers, seventh-grade daughter of Brent and Jamie Driggers, who wrote a poem titled ?Kite?; MaryElena Heyen, fifth-grade daughter of Bruce and Janelle Heyen, who received honorable mention for a fiction piece titled ?The Crystal Tears?; and Jessi Dalke, fifth-grade daughter of Dale and Jana Dalke, who received honorable mention for a nonfiction piece titled ?Little Blue Penguins.?
