With a backdrop of excited elementary school students looking on, members of the Unified School District 408 Board of Education broke ground Thursday morning for the new gymnasium and indoor swimming it will construct as part of a larger, $8 million building program. Hutton Construction of Wichita is the general contractor. Pictured from left are Jan Helmer, Kathy Meierhoff, Keith Collett, Chris Sprowls and Lyle Leppke. Plans call for the facility to be completed within a year. In February, the district broke ground for a new auditorium. Don Ratzlaff / Free Press
