Warrior wrestlers finish first at Hesston Invitational

Marion turned in eight top-three performances, led by three Warriors who finished first in their respective weight classes with perfect records.

Jarrett Johnson maintained a perfect 7-0 season record by winning two matches at 113 pounds. Johnson won by fall over Halstead and by major decision over West Elk, 14-3.

Adam Janzen (7-1) went 3-0 at 182 pounds. After receiving a bye, Janzen won by fall in all three matches over Stafford, Flint Hills and Hillsboro?s Levi Mendoza in the first-place match.

Kyle Palic (7-1) went 3-0 at 220 pounds. Following a bye, Palic won by fall over Hillsboro?s Franklin Jost, then won by fall over Bluestem before winning by technical fall, 16-0, over Hesston in the first-place match.

?Adam and Kyle wrestled well and led the way,? Adkins said. ?I am going to talk about the young guys a lot throughout the season because we know that our seniors are going to do what they need to do.

?Our success is going to be determined by how our young kids wrestle from week to week.?

Three Warriors placed second.

Noah Albin (4-4) went 2-1 at 126 pounds. Following a bye, Albin won by fall over Stafford and by a 14-12 decision over West Elk before losing by fall to Hillsboro?s Travis King in the first-place match.

Corbin Wheeler (7-2) went 3-1 at 145 pounds, winning by fall over an unaffiliated opponent and by fall over Hillsboro?s Tyson Reimer. Wheeler won a 5-4 decision over Nickerson before losing by fall to Stafford in the final match of the day.

At 160 pounds, Remington Putter (7-1) went 2-1. Following a bye, Putter won by fall over Nickerson and Flint Hills, then lost by fall to Burden-Central.

Two Warriors finished third.

At 132 pounds, Bryce Shults (7-2) went 3-1. After a bye, he won by fall over an unaffiliated opponent, then lost by fall to Hesston. He won by fall over a second unaffiliated opponent, then won by fall over Flint Hills in the third-place match.

Tyler Palic (6-3) went 3-1 at 195 pounds. After a bye, Palic won by fall over Hesston, then lost by major decision, 11-3, to Nickerson. Palic won by fall over Remington and by fall over Hillsboro?s Nathan Simhiser in the third-place match.

AJ Cogdill (5-5) placed fourth with a 1-4 record at 120 pounds. He lost by fall to Chaparral, Wichita Independent and Nickerson before winning by fall over Halstead. He then lost by fall to Hesston.

Three Warriors went 1-2.

At 152 pounds, Garrett Hoffner (4-4) received two byes, lost by fall to Hesston, then won by 7-2 decision over Halstead before losing by fall to Hillsboro?s Austin Morgan.

At 170 pounds, Zac Dvorak (5-3) received a bye, then won by fall over Stafford. He lost by fall to St. John?s Military and Hillsboro?s Jesse Meier.

At 285, Jarret McLinden (2-6) received two byes. He lost by fall to Hesston and won by fall over West Elk before losing by fall to Stafford.

Coming?The Warriors will host the Marion County wrestling duals Friday. Matches begin at 3 p.m.
