Trojan wrestlers struggle at Lyons

The Hillsboro wrestling team endured a long day at the Lyons Round Robin Tournament Satur?day.

The Trojans, beyond missing two wrestlers because of illness and a third who was unable to compete, were not on top of their game, according to coach Scott O?Hare.

?Although a few of the guys did some nice things and looked good at times, overall, this was a disappointing day for the team,? O?Hare said. ?We seemed a little flat, didn?t wrestle with a great deal of intensity, and simply got pushed around most of the day.?

The Trojans? best finishes were a pair of second-place performances. Levi Men?doza went 1-1 at 182 pounds and Nathan Sim?hiser went 2-1 at 195.

Placing third was Jesse Meier, who went 3-2 at 170.

Rounding out the lineup were: Mack Bartel (1-4), fifth at 106; Tristan Donaldson (2-3), fourth at 120; Travis King (1-3), fourth at 126; Ian Alum?baugh (2-3), fourth at 138; Jaden Priest (0-4), fifth at 145; and Franklin Jost (0-3), fourth at 220.

?I did not have these guys properly prepared to compete this week,? O?Hare said. ?I?m hoping this was a one-week letdown, and that we will recover quickly in preparation for the upcoming league and regional tournaments.

?We plan to switch a few things up, hopefully to help these guys focus on what they have put the work in for over the past three months.?

Coming? The Trojans will compete in the Central Kansas League tournament Saturday at Hoisington. Matches begin at 10 a.m.
