The Tabor College softball team improved to 5-4 with three wins and one loss at the Oklahoma Baptist tournament Friday and Saturday.
Tabor opened the tournament with an 8-0 victory over Dordt Friday. The Bluejays used nine hits to earn the win, led by Sara Vela who went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Jordan Haney and Lauren Massey each hit a home run.
Marilee Burge was the winning pitcher. In five innings, she gave up two hits and no runs. She walked one batter and struck out four.
The Bluejays then defeated Hastings, 13-8. Tabor built an 8-1 lead over four innings, highlighted by a first-inning home run by Jordan Haney, a third-inning three-RBI double by Massey, and two-run home runs by both Kellyn Holt and Araselly Vargas in the fourth inning. Hastings tied the game with six runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Tabor used four hits and an error to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The half inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Vargas.
Five Bluejays had two hits in the game: Holt, Haney, Vargas, Massey and Chelsea Nutt. Marilee Burge ?was the winning pitcher. In 11?3 innings, she gave up one hit and no runs. She neither walked nor struck out any batters.
Saturday, Tabor began with a 3-1 win over Northwestern. The Bluejays scored all three runs in the fifth inning in which Holt hit a two-RBI triple and Vargas hit an RBI single. Northwestern responded with one run in the top of the sixth.
Burge (4-1) was the winning pitcher. In seven innings, she gave up four hits and one run (unearned) while walking three and striking out three.
Tabor concluded the outing with an 8-1 loss to Doane. The Tigers led 4-0 before Tabor scored in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Haney. But four Doane runs in the bottom half of the inning solidified the win for the Tigers.
Massey was 2-for-3 at-bat. Jaycie Morris (0-3) absorbed the pitching loss. In 22?3 innings, she gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) while walking no one and striking out one batter.
Coming?Tabor (5-4) will play a doubleheader at Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday. Game 1 is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
