A post superbowl advice column

Dear Joe,

I found the Super Bowl less than satisfying.

Boring

Dear Boring,

What’s the problem? What do you have against great defense and punting? Next time, change channels and watch the Puppy Bowl. Better yet, turn the TV off and do something constructive.

———-

Dear Joe,

I’m sick and tired of watching Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft win all the time. Brady may be the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) but he’s not the greatest right now. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of several quarterbacks in the NFL who are better at this point in time. And if Dee Ford hadn’t lined up off sides in the AFC championship game, the Chiefs would have intercepted Brady three times and would have played in the Super Bowl.

Sour Grapes

Dear Sour Grapes,

It does appear that Brady was fortuitous to have won that game against K.C., but the bottom line is who got to hold up the Super Bowl trophy yet again? I’ll give you this; Belichick may be the best coach of all time. This Super Bowl was eerily similar to the last championship Denver won with Peyton Manning at quarterback. Manning was hardly the reason the Broncos won any more than Brady was the reason the Pats won this year’s Super Bowl. The defense of both teams had more to do with winning the game than either quarterback.

———–

Dear Joe,

How does Julian Edelman win the MVP of the Super Bowl? I know he had a good game, but the reason the Pats won the Super Bowl was because of their defense.

Get Serious

Dear Get Serious,

I agree.

———–

Dear Joe,

I still think the Chiefs, Rams, and Saints all have more overall talent than the Patriots. Don’t any of those teams win this year’s Super Bowl if Belicheck was their head coach?

Coaching Matters

Dear Coaching Matters,

That’s an interesting question and you might have a valid point, even though the teams you cited all have quality coaches.

———–

Dear Joe,

Will the Patriots win the Super Bowl again next year?

Bummed Out

Dear Bummed Out,

Don’t be surprised if the Patriots at least get to the AFC Championship game with another opportunity to win the Super Bowl. They are in a weak division, so they pile up a lot of wins that often give them home-field advantage. Plus, the Chiefs are already one of the early favorites to be in next year’s Super Bowl, as the Pats will play the “No one respects us card,” again.

———-

Dear Joe,

I think the Chiefs and Saints would have been more entertaining to watch than this year’s Super Bowl.

Still Bitter

Dear Still Bitter,

You’re right. Just about anything would have been more entertaining. The Super Bowl was a super letdown after two exciting conference overtime championship games. I read that no one was interested in watching the Pats put the Rams into a 60-minute-long sleeper hold. But the goal of the game is simply to win. If it happens to be entertaining, that’s icing on the cake.

———–

Dear Joe,

How ironic is it that the Super Bowl was a defensive struggle in a year with so much offense?

Defense Wins Championships

Dear Defense Wins Championships,

Defense does make a difference — ask Kansas City. But if ifs and buts were candies and nuts what a Merry Christmas it would be.
