Trojan golf team looks to continue success

Senior Avery Unruh poses for a shot prior to the Hillsboro Golf Team’s| season beginning. Laura Fowler Paulus / Free PressThe Hillsboro Golf team has qualified for state the last three years, but only one team member will return from last year’s varsity squad.

Senior, Avery Unruh played in all varsity tournaments last season and had an average of about 100 with a season low of 94.

Sophomores, Zach Dittert and Paul Glanzer are the only others returning from last year’s team. The tam will be rounded out by four freshmen: Eli Dalke, Rylie Daniels, Kate Maxfield, and Frank Wichert.

“We will obviously be very young and inexperienced from a competition standpoint,” 21-year head coach Scott O’Hare said. “With so little experience, we will have to manage time learning the basics of the swing, consistent ball striking, the short game around the greens, as well as the rules of golf, course management, and the mental side of the game.”

O’Hare hopes it won’t be too much to take in and the golfers don’t get overly anxious thinking about too many things.
