The Peabody-Burns golf team has three returning letter-winners in senior Thomas McGee and juniors Brian Wingert and Joseph Zappone. The Warriors also have a former letter-winner?Travis Pohlman?who rejoins the squad after a one-year hiatus.

?We have 10 on the team this year and we?re not unhappy about that,? coach Jim Pohlman said. ?We?ve got a sophomore and a freshman coming up who will really add to our team, so I think we will be pretty competitive.?

Wingert and Zappone are all but certain to be a strong 1-2 combination at the top of the team.

?They were playing 1-2 as sophomores,? Pohlman said. ?They?ve been strong for us ever since they were freshmen.?

Wingert shot a 71?good for ninth place?at the state tournament a season ago.

?Our regional has changed. Instead of the top three teams advancing, it?s only the top two,? Pohlman said. ?So one of our goals is to make it through regionals.

?We want to go to state again this year, and if we go, it will be our fifth year in a row,? he added. ?We haven?t sent a team to state five years in a row going back 30, 40 years ago. So we?re very excited about that.?

Peabody-Burns opens at Tuesday, April 1, at the Centre Invitational played at Herington.
