Goessel track building on success of last year

After both the boys and girls track teams placed second in league last season, the Goessel Track team has reason to go into 2019 with high hopes.

12th year Head Coach Curtis Guhr will have 40 athletes out for track which he said was the highest number in quite some time.

That paired with the team’s successes in Cross Country in the fall, Guhr thinks the team will have several distance runners with a chance to compete well also.

Stephany Meyer is Goessel’s only state qualifier returning, 10th place in the long jump, but several others are coming back as letter winners.

For the girls, Meyer, Megan Guerrero, Porclein Unruh, Elyse Boden, Lizzy Schmucker, and Rachael Boese all return as letter-winners.

“We are also looking for some good things out of several other younger girls,” Guhr said.

On the boys’ side, they return: Zach Zogleman, Zackary Guerrero, Jerah Schmidt, Jacob Hagewood, Kale Funk, David Sawyer, Dawson Duerksen, and Nate Zogleman.

“We will be looking to these returning letter winners to lead the team this season,” Guhr said.

The Goessel Track Team got into action for the first time when they hosted a track meet on Tuesday, April 2 at 4:30 p.m. Their next track meet is on April 5 in Marion.
