Senior Rhett Makovec returns to lead the team. He was Goessel’s top finisher at the Class 1A state meet, placing 21st among a field of 84 golfers with an 18-hole score of 94. Junior Braden Roby also returns, having finished 49th at state (106).

Other returning members of the state team are juniors Carson Sterk and Jayce Schmidt. As a team, Goessel finished ninth among 11 schools at state.

Junior foreign exchange student Michal Holada will join Goessel’s 16-person roster this season.

Lindeman said he would like to see improvement from his team throughout the season.

“I am hoping to have better finishes from these guys at tournaments throughout the year,” he said. “Last year, we had some disappointing finishes that we hope to improve on. There is still a lot of growing that can be done from this year’s team from top to bottom.

“Last year was the first time most of the golfers were at a state tournament, which can always be overwhelming,” Lindeman added. “This year’s goal is to improve our course management to put us in better position for the next shot.”

Lindeman said he expects a competitive race to fill varsity roles, adding that he looks for a number of his athletes to score in the low 90s and possibly the upper 80s this season.

Goessel will open the season April 4 at Herington.
