The Canton-Galva softball team will look to a number of returning players this season under the direction of second-year coach Dean Scott.

The Eagles lost three seniors to graduation from last year?s team: Jennifer Likes (left field), Erika Smith (pitcher, catcher) and Lauren Ballantyne (third base).

Key returners for this season include shortstop Sierah Nordstrom, center fielder Autumn Colgin, first baseman Zoe Unruh, and third baseman and right fielder Nicholle Wilhelm.

Scott expects good things from three incoming freshmen: Taylor Everett at second base; Zoey Nichols at third; and Alex Koehn in left field.

?We?re still working on our pitching, trying to get it to come around, but defensive-wise and offensive-wise, we?re really pretty good,? Scott said.

The Eagle coach expects Heart of America teams to once again provide tough competition.

?Ell-Saline?s probably going to be the top team in our league this year,? he said.

Scott said his goal for the season is to ?win as many games as we can and see where we?re at when sub-state rolls around.?

The Eagles will open the season Tuesday at Inman. Canton-Galva will host Moundridge April 10 in its home opener.
