The not-so-good news is that apart from that core group, the team is in Schroeder?s words, ?not extremely deep.?
?The seniors have plenty of varsity experience and the returning underclassmen have had some experience to gain confidence from,? Schroeder said.
?I think that the seven returning players will defend and guard and play unselfish and rebound,? he added. ?We will need to do those things very well, and also limit turnovers.?
To improve on the 6-17 mark the team posted a year ago, the Warriors will have to take advantage of a more balanced approach to scoring.
?I think we will be balanced offensively, and it is important that we make the extra pass to take advantage of every opportunity we have,? Schroeder said.
Rebounding will be a challenge, given the Warriors? lack of height as a team.
?We will just have to do a very good job of getting in position,? Schroeder said. ?Limiting opponents? possessions and extra opportunities will be a must for us if we are going to be successful.?
The team showed it is capable of playing superior basketball in spurts last year, most notably in its run to the sub-state championship game.
?Hopefully, this group gained some confidence with their run last season,? Schroeder said. ?One thing about this group is that they do not give up no matter how things are going?and that might be their biggest strength. They are resilient.?
