Three starters return to lead the Peabody-Burns girls’ basketball team this season under the direction of second-year coach Scott Bauer.

The Warriors will seek to improve upon last year’s 2-19 record with the aid of returning starters Anna Lubbers, Mallory Harris and Tori Pickens.

Lubbers, a 5-foot, 9-inch senior, averaged 5.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game a year ago.

Harris (5-4), also a senior, averaged 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds.

Pickens (5-7), a sophomore, scored 5.2 points and grabbed 1.8 rebounds per game last year.

Additional letter-winners include seniors Katie Charles and Jory Rives.

With more than half of the roster filled by seniors, the Warriors bring experience to the court.

“We have a very strong and positive senior class who is looking to lead this team through example,” Bauer said. “They are a great group of girls to work with each and every day, both on and off the court. They have learned their roles as leaders and mesh very well together.”

Bauer said nearly his entire roster has seen varsity action.

“This team has demonstrated positive attitudes, consistent dedication, encouraging support and a coachable mindset,” he said.

Key to their success, the Warriors will look to limit turnovers, increase scoring and gain confidence this season, Bauer said.

The Warriors will host Herington in their home-opener Friday.
