Marion boys begin new league with some veterans

Finishing the 2009-10 season 7-14 overall and 3-8 in the Mid-Central Activities Association, the Marion boys will return players with court experience this season.

Marion ended its season with a 54-36 loss to Council Grove in the opening round of the Class 3A sub-state in Council Grove.

Marion beat Council Grove 55-49 one week before the sub-state opening loss.

After losing top scorers Eric Vogel, Isaac Hett and Wil Case as well as Mitch Cady to graduation, Marion will be led by sophomore point guard Jordan Hett and senior wing Jordan Versch.

Hett started at point guard as a freshman for the Warriors. Versch played key minutes in his junior campaign.

Also seeing time were seniors Dane Purkeypile and Dillon Richmond.

Marion enters the Heart of America League this season where they will face perennial powers Moundridge, Berean Academy and Hutch Trinity. Berean is the defending Class 2A state champions.

Marion starts it season Friday at Hutchinson Trinity.
