GHS boys return 3 starters

The Goessel boys’ basketball team will rely on three returning starters from last year’s 7-14 team to lead the Bluebirds this season under the direction of seventh-year coach Curtis Guhr.

Senior Jordan Griffin (6 feet, 2 inches) averaged 10.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game a year ago.

Dylan Lindeman, a 6-3 sophomore, joined Griffin in double-digit scoring. He averaged 10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

Goessel’s third returning starter is senior Carson Sterk (6-2). He averaged 1.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

“With losing size and some key scoring to graduation and injury, we will look to our three returning starters to play a pivotal part this season,” Guhr said.

“Rebounding and defense will be several keys to focus on in practice throughout the year. With only three returning letter-winners from last year’s team, finding the guys to step up and fill the voids will be a key to our season.”

Guhr said he expects the Wheat State League to be competitive this year, with Elyria Christian, Solomon and Herington in contention at the top of the league.

Goessel will compete in Class 2A this year.

The Bluebirds will travel to Inman Friday to start the 2017 season.
