A Peabody-Burns girls? team that lost only one starter to graduation looks to improve on last season?s 2-19 record behind the leadership of ninth-year coach Darren Schroeder.

The Warriors lost in the first round of sub-state last year.

?A nice nucleus returns for us, so we should have plenty of experience and understanding of the program returning,? Schroeder said.

?This group is committed to hard work and becoming a better team. I like the chemistry and diversity that this team could present.?

Senior Sarah Hofkamp and junior Rayna Barnes return at the post position for the Warriors, while senior Jessica Noble and juniors McKenzie Ensminger, Brandee Burnett and Paige Lewis will be a force on the perimeter.

Senior Tori Schroeder and sophomore Kaycy Gonzalez are versatile players who can play either perimeter or post.

Schroeder said Hofkamp is a reliable and enthusiastic leader who understands her role well, while Barnes is a strong, physical forward with a determination to improve.

?This group works extremely hard, and will play hard every minute of the game,? Schroeder said. ?For us to be competitive consistently on a nightly basis in the (Wheat State) league we will need to defend and guard, rebound and play unselfishly.?

The Warriors were 1-7 in the WSL last season.

Schroeder said scoring will be the biggest obstacle his team will face this season, but the Warriors? inside game should be a strength and they should be able to run multiple defenses.

?We will have to be a very solid rebounding team and will definitely need to eliminate turnovers from the past,? Schroeder said.

?If we can be consistent each night on the offensive end of the floor, I think our defense will be good enough to make us competitive in the league.?

The Warriors are scheduled to start their season Friday with a home game against Chase County.
