3 seniors form CHS core

Starting in her 29th year at Centre, volleyball coach Yvonne Burhoop will return several key players with two years of varsity experience.

Returning four starters and six letter-winners from a 15-18 season, the Class 1A Cougars will be led by senior hitter Allison Shields. The 2008 and 2009 all-Eisenhower League selection, will be joined by returning starter and two-time letter-winner senior setter Tori Marler.

Senior libero Amanda Floyd and sophomores hitter Ellie Miller and Anna Weber also started for the Cougars in 2009.

Our strength will be the fact we have four returning starters,? said Burhoop.

Burhoop said she also may rely on three freshmen to play key roles. Bryanna Svodoba, Casey Simons and Amy Makovec could see significant varsity action.

?The development of the freshmen will be important to our success,? said Burhoop.

Centre enters the new Wheat State League this season, joining Dwight D. Eisenhower League schools Centre, Hope, Solomon, Wakefield , White City , and Elyria Christian and Goessel, Peabody-Burns and Little River from the Heart of America League.

Centre is picked to finish fifth in the Wheat State behind Little River, Goessel, Wakefield , and Peabody and ahead of White City , Solomon, Hope and Elyria .

If Centre wins 27 matches in 2010, Burhoop would reach the 500 win mark. She has a career record of 473-316.

Centre will open its season Sept. 7 at Elyria Christian.
