Two seniors will lead CGHS team

The Canton-Galva Eagles will feature a young cross-country team this fall, but will have two seniors returning.

Seniors Nathan Bray and Tad Wedel likely will run in the top spots. Rounding out the varsity spots will be juniors Curtis Evans and Justin Miller and sophomore Eli Janzen.

In his sixth year as the Eagle coach, Lyle Silsby will see some changes in the Heart of America League. Goessel, Peabody-Burns and Little River have departed for the Wheat State League, and Marion has entered the HOA from the Mid-Central Activities Association.

With the change, the average school size will be significantly larger, but Silsby said running against big schools is nothing new.

?We run against them all the time anyway,? he said. ?When you run down at Hesston, you?re running from Class 1A to 6A. Our times are only against other 2A schools, but you see all those other kids.?

This season, the Eagles want to improve their standing at the HOA League meet.

?We improved last year over the recent years,? Silsby said. ?We?re hoping this year we can do even better.?

Canton-Galva opens it season Sept. 2 at the Lincoln Invitational.
