The Centre volleyball team recorded a 19-16 record last season to finish second in the Wheat State League regular season and league tournament.
With three returning starters on this year?s squad, the Cougars will once again seek to be at or near the top of the WSL under the direction of coach Yvonne Burhoop, who is entering her 32nd year at Centre.
Two returning starters will fuel the fire at the net: senior hitters Cacey Simons, a second-team all-league selection; and senior Bryanna Svoboda.
Setting up the play will be junior Shelby Makovec as the Courgar?s returning starter at setter.
Additional players vying for starting positions include senior Makenzie Deines and junior Brenna Shields.
Concerning league play, Burhoop said: ?We have five returning letter-winners and three starters back from last year, so we should be near the top of the league.?
Other teams to watch in the top half of the league are Goessel, Peabody-Burns and Elyria Christian, Burhoop said.
The Cougars were scheduled to open play Sept. 3 against Inman at Canton-Galva, then will battle Elyria Christian and Goessel at Elyria Sept. 10.
