Tabor tennis teams will look for KCAC honors

Tabor’s men’s and women’s tennis teams have been following a workout program and have already played in some tournaments to get ready for this season of play.

Head coach John Ruder is in his seventh year with the Bluejays.

For the women, returners Naima Mexsen, senior and KCAC Honorable Mention; Olivia Brubacher, sophomore; and Tessa Isaac, junior, will be joined by freshmen newcomers Kayla Roth, Skyler Ochoa, and Abigail Berggren.

The women’s team ended their season in the semi-finals of the KCAC Team Tournament last year, but took first place in KCAC, was the KCAC women’s champion of character team and the KCAC champions of character team for the entire conference.

“We will be rebuilding but with a good chance to finish in the top six in the conference,” Ruder said of the women’s team.

The men return senior Angel Miguel, who was KCAC Honorable Mention, senior Gallagher Martin, sophomore Billy Wiser, and sophomore Dhiraj Adhikari. Freshmen Melvin Gothilander, Tait Theel, Connor Williams and Levi Porter will be fresh faces on the court.

“We will have more depth than in the past,” Ruder said of the men. “We will have a good chance of finishing in the top six and possibly in top four.”

Ruder is looking forward to success this season.

“With just six players, the women’s team does not have the depth I would like, however, the ladies we have are hard-working and dedicated, so my challenge will be to help the step up their game to the next level,” he said. “The men’s team will be strong at No. 1 Singles and in Doubles. My challenge will is to help my players step up their singles play.”
