Tabor soccer teams seek to surpass predictions

The Tabor College men?s and women?s soccer teams are looking for continued improvement this fall under the coaching leadership of Grant Brubacher.

Men?s team

Picked to finish ninth in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and coming off an 8-10-2 season in 2009, the men?s team will be led by a key group of seniors.

Those seniors are Aaron Beagle (Topeka), Marcos Banderia (Porto Alegre, Brazil), J.D. Tippin (Hillsboro), Josh Reiswig (Wichita) and Jake Riley (Derby).

Reiswig was an honorable-mention all-KCAC defender in 2009. Also returning is two-time all-KCAC honorable-mention middle fielder Robert Masson (Dagety Bay, Scotland).

Tabor will bring in eight freshmen after losing two-time first-team all-KCAC forward Liam McLean and two-time honorable mention all-KCAC Andy Adrian to graduation.

Among the freshmen are middle fielders Aram Najar (Perris, Calif.) and Dylan Fleming (Omaha, Neb.), a position where the Bluejays are the thinnest.

The Tabor men open their season Sept. 3 at Central Christian College in McPherson.

Women?s team

Tabor?s young women?s team, meanwhile, was picked to finish 10th in the KCAC.

Coming off a 3-11-3 record in 2009, the Bluejays feature three seniors and 11 freshmen. The young squad will be led by seniors, middle fielders Leigh Costello (The Colony, Texas) and Amy Dueck (Reedley, Calif.) and forward Adira Whitehorn (Duncanville, Texas).

Juniors on the squad are middle fielders Stephanie Johnson (Lansing, Mich.) and Emily Friesen (Winnipeg, Man.). Sophomores include defenders Molly Dick (Buhler), Stephanie Lappin (Maize) and Katie Mount (Hillsboro).

The freshmen are: middle fielders Jessica Yraceburu (Camas, Wash.), Brooke Eitzen (Hesston), Rachel Stobridge (Northglenn, Colo.), defenders Leona Andrews (Northglenn, Colo.) and Molly Clark, (Fort Collins, Colo.), goalkeepers Chelsea Brown (Sullivan, Mo.), and Kallee Cross (Savannah, Ga.) and utility players Dayna Wohlgemuth (Wichita), Megan Beals (Wichita) and Victoria Cantu (Allen, Texas).

Tabor opens its season Sept. 3 at Central Christian College in McPherson.
