Goessel activities director Tyler Schroeder steps in for his first year at the helm of the Bluebird cross-country team this fall.

?I?m excited this year because, first of all, we have good numbers, which not only makes for a good team, but it helps for the athletes to compete,? Schroeder said. ?Everyone can find someone to run with and improve every day.?

The Bluebird boys are weighted toward upperclassmen, with two senior and four junior letter-winners setting the pace.

These include seniors Dan Smucker and Grant Flaming and juniors Heath Goertzen, Ben Weins, Nathan Czarnowsky and Jake Herrel.

?I see some of our top contributors here from last year and they are ready to do well,? Schroeder said.

?Heath Goertzen, Nathan Czarnowsky, Ben Weins?those should all be top runners. Some of our top newcomers will be Ali Buller and Davis Cook.

?But don?t count anybody else out either,? Schroeder added. ?We have a good group of runners and I think just about anybody could pull out at any time.?

Schroeder said his goal as coach is to train his athletes to compete well at the end of the year, taking care of themselves so they can be successful at regionals and state.

?Look for this year?s Bluebird cross-country team to come out ready to compete,? Schroeder said. ?With a strong core of letter-winners returning from last year and the addition of a few newcomers, this group has the foundation to compete in all meets.?

GHS is scheduled to begin its season with an away meet at Clearwater Thursday, Aug. 30.
