Centre

The Cougars finished second to Hope at the Eisenhower League volleyball tournament at Hope.

Centre, the fourth seed, defeated fifth seed Flint Hills (25-17, 25-14) and sixth seed St. Xavier (25-9, 25-12) before losing to top seed Hope (23-25, 9-25).

In bracket play, Centre defeated second seed Wakefield (26-28, 25-22, 25-16) to earn a second shot at the tournament hosts in the title game. Hope defeated the Cougars a second time to secure the league crown.

Leann Pankratz totaled 42 kills, an average of 3.8 per game. Amy Hajek made good on just shy of 84 percent of her attempted sets to set up 29 kills on 110 assists, an average of 10 assists and 2.6 for kill per game.

Centre hosted its last triangular Oct. 2, defeating Wakefield (25-18, 22-25, 25-19) in a hotly contested duel before falling to Hope (10-25, 21-25) in its final tuneup before the league tournament.

Next for Centre is regional play, slated for Oct. 16 at Goessel. In addition to the hosts, the field will include Burrton, Hope, Hutchinson Central Christian, Elyria Christian and White City.

Canton-Galva

The Eagles earned a split with a win over Ell-Saline (25-12, 25-14) and a loss to Inman (18-25, 19-25).

CGHS defeated Solomon (25-11, 25-18) at its home tournament Sept. 29. Canton-Galva played a triangular Oct. 9 at home and is slated to play at the Heart of America league tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 13. at Brookville-El Saline. In addition to the hosts, the field includes Bennington, Herington, Minnea?polis, Moundridge, Peabody-Burns and Solomon.
