TRACK & FIELD
◼ Canton-Galva: The Eagle track and field team traveled to Fairfield Apr. 17 for a meet with Fairfield, Inman, Sedgwick and Little River. The boys and girls teams both placed fourth.
The boys’ 4×400 relay, comprised of Chase Klinkerman, Landon Everett, Kinser Colgin and Jerry Bradbury brought home gold (3:51.74).
Earning silver medals for second place were: Cash Toews in both the 800 (2:27.06) and 1600 5:22.4); and Jerry Bradbury in long jump (17-10).
Placing third were: Klinkerman in triple jump (35-9.5) and Colgin in long jump (17-2) and the 300-meter hurdles (48.46).
Tia Moddelmog led the girls with gold medals in three of her events: high jump (4-10), triple jump (33-7.75) and the 400 meters (1:05.52).
Katie Fiedler earned silver in her three events: 100 (13.62), 200 (28.18) and long jump (15-8.25). Braylee Doughman placed second in shot put (29-10.25) and third in discus (94-5.75).
Fiedler (competed) April 20 in the 100 meters at the KU Relays in Lawrence. The rest of the team will be in action again April 24 at Halstead.
◼ Goessel: The Bluebirds hosted a Central Kansas League Track meet April 17. Goessel’s girls and boys teams both placed fifth among the six participating schools.
Bluebirds finishing among the top three in their respective events were:
Stephany Meyer, first in long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 9.5 inches, and first in triple jump with a mark of 33-5.
Kara Burkholder won javelin with a throw of 109-0.
Brittney Hiebert placed second in 1600 meters (6:11.57) and third in 800 meters (2:36.49).
The Goessel 4×400 team of Raechel Boese, Stephany Meyer, Elizabeth Schmucker and Brittney Hiebert placed second (4:37.11).
Elyse Boden placed third in the 3200 (14:39).
For the boys, Jordan Griffin was awarded second place in javelin with a throw of 141-02 that tied Kiegan Vogt of Berean Academy for best throw.
Dawson Duerksen placed third in the 3200 meters (11:54.52).
Zackary Guerrero took third in 110-meter hurdles (18.58)
The Bluebird 4×800 team of Zach Zogleman, Nate Zogleman, Jerah Schmidt and Juan Aguilar placed third in 9:55.01.
The Bluebirds were schedule to compete at the Norwich Invitational Friday.
BASEBALL
◼ Canton-Galva: The Eagles lost both ends of an April 17 doubleheader at Moundridge, 11-1 and 19-0.
Canton-Galva was limited to five hits in the opener, including two by Andrew Prieb, who was the starting pitcher and absorbed the loss. The game ended by run-rule in five innings.
The Eagles managed only two hits in Game 2, one by Prieb and one by Brandon Huff. R. Peterson was the losing pitcher for Canton-Galva.
The Eagles lost a doubleheader against Ell-Saline April 20 by identical scores of 12-2. With the sweep, the Eagles are 0-12 for the season.
Canton-Galva is scheduled to play at Ellinwood April 24 and then at Sedgwick April 27.
