The Marion wrestling team won the dual tournament at Onaga with a 5-0 record Friday.
?There was a lot of good competition at Onaga, which is what we need,? coach Chad Adkins said. ?We beat some really good teams.?
The Warriors defeated Burlington (38-37), Rock Creek (49-24), Onaga (53-21), Pleasant Ridge (54-24) and Russell (45-28).
Six Warriors placed either first or second individually.
Max Gerlach (106 pounds) and Kyle Palic (220) placed first in their respective weight classes with undefeated, 5-0 records for the day.
Four Warriors finished second with 4-1 records:?Jarrett Johnson (113), Cody Shipman (120), Remington Putter (160) and Tyler Palic (195).
Adam Janzen faced three state-ranked opponents at 182 pounds and finished 3-2 for the day.
?He lost two one-point matches, and we learned some stuff that will make us better,??Adkins said. ?Adam will be where he needs to be at the end of February.?
Adkins also spoke well of the efforts of Bryce Shults and Corbin Wheeler.
?Bryce Shults wrestled very well at 132,??he said. ?He had some very good matches and got better.
?Corbin Wheeler also wrestled very well (at 145).?He had a couple really tough kids that we had wrestled earlier in the year.? He took one of them to triple overtime and lost a close match to the other guy.?
Eureka?The Warriors defeated Eureka (60-16) and Remington (66-9) in duals Thursday.
Coming?Marion will wrestle at Chase County Saturday where matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
