The Marion baseball team opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of Chase County Tuesday.

Marion won Game 1, 8-4. The game was tied, 1-1, after the first inning, but Marion took the lead with two runs in the second inning, thanks to a two-RBI single by Bret Voth.

Both teams scored once in the fourth inning, giving Marion a 4-2 lead.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Chase County tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Marion countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to solidify the win. Seven Warriors reached base on a walk in that inning.

Nathan Baldwin was 2-for-2 at-bat and had one RBI. Dakota Stimpson was 2-for-4. Voth led with three RBIs.

Seth Savage (1-0) earned the pitching win in relief of starter Dylan Pippin. In 11?3 innings, Savage gave up one hit and no runs. He walked no one and struck out one batter.

Marion won Game 2, 15-0, in four innings behind the pitching of Voth (1-0) who threw a one-hitter shutout with five strikeouts.

After scoring one run in the first inning, Marion took control by plating six more in the second. Remington Putter, Mason Pedersen and Dakota Stimpson all contributed singles in the half inning.

Marion added four runs in the third and four more in the fourth to earn the run-rule victory.

Voth was 2-for-3 at-bat, including a double, and had one RBI. Stimpson and Baldwin each had two RBIs.

Coming?Marion (2-0) was scheduled to host Sedgwick Tuesday and will host Bennington Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.
