Five members of the Hillsboro Wrestling Club competed in the USA Wres?tling Kansas Kids State Championships Saturday and Sunday at the Topeka Expocentre.

Camden Padgett placed fifth in the 10 & under/79 pounds division, with a 4-2 record.

Tristan Rathbone went 0-2 in the 10 & under/90 pounds division.

Connor Padgett placed fifth in the 10 & Under/95 pounds division with a 4-2 record

Travis King finished 1-2 in the high school division/138 pounds.

Levi Mendoza placed sixth in the high school division/182 pounds.

?This is Tristan?s first time qualifying for the state tournament,? coach Scott O?Hare said. ?Both Travis and Levi have qualified in the past and are both high school state qualifiers.?

The state tournament involved more than 1,200 wrestlers representing 160 clubs from around the state.

Each wrestler qualified through the Kansas State Tournament Series. First, they had to place among the top four in their division two weeks ago at their respective sub-district tournaments.

Then they had to place among the top four in their respective brackets at the District III tournament in Emporia March 21.

Each state bracket, with a few exceptions, had a full 16-man bracket with four competitors out of each of the four districts in the state, regardless of school or community size.
