Hillsboro?tennis team picks up three wins

The Hillsboro tennis team picked up three individual wins April 21 at the Hills?boro Invitational.

All three wins came in the No. 2 singles bracket.

Jacob Isaac opened with an 8-5 win over Brandon Guerra of Pratt, then lost 8-4 to Isaac Stevens of Wichita Trinity and 8-2 to Sean Albin of Neodesha. Isaac placed fourth in his eight-player bracket.

Josh Funk lost his opening match to Stevens 8-4, then defeated Guerra 8-3 before dropping an 8-6 battle to Riley Parks of Wichita Collegiate. Funk placed sixth in the bracket.

Brandon Wiebe lost to Albin 8-3 and Parks 8-3 before defeating Guerra 8-6, finishing seventh in the bracket.

In No. 2 doubles, Dakota Klein and Dylan Wiens lost 8-1 to Winfield, 8-0 to Wichita Trinity and 8-2 to Neodesha.

?Each week the guys keep getting better, and it was nice this week to see that translate into more success in their matches,? coach Stuart Holmes said.

?With seven teams competing, we shifted our players out of some divisions and into others, resulting in an even number in each division and everyone getting three matches,? he added.

Coming?The Trojans were scheduled to return to action Tuesday at Hesston. Their next match will be May 5 at Smoky Valley.
