The Marion High School volleyball team split with Halstead and Hillsboro Oct. 6 in Marion. The Warriors beat Halstead (25-21, 20-25, 25-20) and lost to Hillsboro (25-15, 17-25, 19-25), and their record now stands at 20-7.
Against Halstead, Julia Zeiner had 13 kills on 23 attacks with two errors for a .478 attack rating. She scored five aces with her serve as well as 11 digs and a solo block. Whitney Gordon had 11 kills and Kayley Heerey had 7 kills as Marion?s other options.
Marion dominated the first game against Hillsboro. In the second and third games, Hillsboro effectively limiting Marion?s primary scorers; combined with sharper defense, the Trojans offense proved overpowering.
Zeiner had 11 kills, with Gordon (9), Heerey (3) and Lindsay Hett (3) operating in support.
Coming?Marion hosted its ?senior night? quadrangular with Haven, Halstead and Lyons on Tuesday (Oct. 13) and plays at the Hillsboro tournament Saturday. The Warriors play at Collegiate Oct. 20 and are slated to play in the Sedgwick sub-state group Oct. 24.
