Youth wrestlers headed to state

The Hillsboro Wrestling Club had three wrestlers qualify March 20 for the Kansas Kids State Championship Wrestling Tournament this Saturday and Sunday at the Topeka Expo?center

Representing HWC at the state tournament are Devin Gomez, Nathan Simhiser and Dylan Delk.

The previous weekend, March 13, nine HWC members competed in the District 3, East Sub-District Tournament in Junction City. The top four place winners in each bracket advanced to the District 3 Championship Tournament wrestled this past weekend at McPherson.

The five club members who qualified to compete at the district tournament were: Devin Gomez (8 & Under, 64 pounds), Nathan Simhiser (10 & Under, 120), Travis King (12 & Under, 72), (Darren Mueller, High School Division, 135) and Dylan Delk (HS Division, 175).

Others competing at the Sub-District Tournament were Tristin Rathbone (8 & Under, 49), Bryce Shutls (10 & Under, 73), Cody Delk (14 & Under, 125), and Bret Mueller (HS Division, 125).

HWC members Tristan Rathbone and Garrett Helmer also competed at the McPher?son District Tournament in the 6 & Under District Champion?ships. Helmer finished in fourth place.

The top four medalists in each bracket?excluding the 6 & Under Division?at the District Tournament automatically qualified for the state championships this weekend.
