WSL highlights 9 players from area schools

The three schools in the Free Press readership area combined for nine players receiving all-league recognition by the basketball coaches of the Wheat State League.

For the girls, state-qualifying Centre (5-3 in the league, 14-10 overall) led the way with three selections, including two first-team picks: freshman Shelby Makovec and sophomore Cacey Simons. Junior Beka Basore received honorable mention.

Also receiving honorable mention were Rayna Barnes, a junior from Peabody-Burns (2-5, 5-16) and Jessica Harvey, a junior from Goessel (1-7, 4-17).

For the boys, Braden Unruh, a senior from Goessel (5-3, 12-10), and Matt Hiebert, a senior from Peabody-Burns (5-3, 9-13), received first-team honors.

Receiving honorable mention were Justin Dienes, a junior from Centre (2-6, 9-12), and Justin Savage, a junior from Peabody Burns.
