Marion’s cross-country team earned three medals on a warm and windy Thursday at Herington.
Senior Colin Williams was the Warriors’ only varsity runner. He turned in a top-10 finish, placing ninth and earning a medal with a time of 19 minutes, 20 seconds.
“(Colin) powered through a pretty rough side-ache during the last mile but finished really strong,” coach Dmitry Bucklin said. “He had a great start by leading the pack and setting the tone of the race.”
In the boys’ junior varsity race, freshman Nathan Shields finished ninth in 22:40 to earn a medal. Freshman Colton Boudreaux was 20th (23:38).
“I look forward to seeing (Nathan) picking off runners and focusing in the races to come,” Bucklin said. “I could tell that (Colton) was really focused through the race.”
Sophomore Bethany Grimmett was Marion’s only female finisher. She earned the fifth-place junior varsity medal (33:02.13), turning in her fastest time of the year.
Junior Elisa Ortiz withdrew during the race with an ankle injury.
