Wheeler chosen for 2014 Shrine Bowl

Marion High School lineman Morgan Wheeler has been selected to compete in the 41st annual Kansas Shrine Bowl July 26 at Pittsburg State University.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 238-pound senior is one of 68 athletes selected from across the state. Wheeler will be one of 34 athletes to compete for the West team.

?A fitting reward for Morgan, who has worked hard for this opportunity,? Marion coach Grant Thierolf said. ?He is the representative of a very good senior class, and we are very proud of him.?

This past season, Wheeler provided a presence on both sides of the ball for the 9-2 Warriors, who advanced to the state playoffs and earned a bi-district win over Hutch?inson Trinity before falling to Sedgwick in regional action.

Wheeler helped anchor the Marion offensive line at guard and also lined up at defensive end. He was a 2013 first team, all-league selection on both offense and defense.

Kickoff for the Shrine Bowl is set for 7 p.m. at Carney Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University. The event benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children. For more information, visit kansas?shrinebowl.com or call 800-530-5524.
