Wheat State volleyball athletes honored

Wheat State League coaches have released the 2016 all-league volleyball honors, with athletes from Canton-Galva and Goessel represented.

Six members of Goessel’s 42-2 third-place state team received recognition.

These Bluebirds were named to the first team: senior Olivia Duerksen; juniors Eden Hiebert, Leah Booton and Brittney Hiebert; and sophomore Savanna Wuest.

Junior Kara Burkholder received honorable mention.

Crysta Guhr was named Coach of the Year. Guhr has guided her team to the Class 1A, Division I state tournament the past four years. The Bluebirds won the state title a year ago.

Meanwhile, three members of Canton-Galva’s 17-14 team received recognition.

Senior Kelli Nightingale was named to the first team. Seniors Autumn Colgin and Emily Ballantyne received honorable mention.
