Warriors kick off track season with two home meets

Marion Relays?The Warriors earned four gold medals at their home meet Friday.

Kristen Herzet earned the girls? only gold medal, winning the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 5 inches. Herzet placed second in both the shot put (34-2) and the javelin (118-2).

Two other Warriors earned silver medals: McKenzee Remmers in the 3,200 (13:11.13); and Erika Hess in the pole vault (8-0).

Molly Hess placed third in the shot put (31-9).

Three Warriors finished fourth: Marissa Jacobson in the triple jump (35-3), Michaela Regnier in the pole vault (6-6), and Remmers in the 1,600 (6:07.34).

Emmy Hess tied for fifth in the pole vault (6-0), while Meggan Frese, Maria Stuchlik, Jessi Lewman and McKenzee Remmers were fifth in the 4×800 (12:08.85).

Completing the Warrior scoring with sixth-place finishes were: Jacobson in the long jump (15-9), Emmy Hess in the 100 hurdles (18.63), and Emily Schneider, Erika Hess, Emmy Hess and Samantha Richmond in the 4×100 (55.63).

As a team, Marion finished fourth of 14 with 661?2 points. McPherson won with 103.

Meanwhile, Jack Schneider highlighted the boys? efforts by winning both the 100 (11.35) and the 200 (23.25).

Tyler Palic earned Marion?s third gold medal with a first-place finish in the discus (138-9).

Four Warriors placed third: Tyler Arocha in the 400 (54.78), Colin Williams in the 800 (2:10.23), Bryce Shults in the pole vault (11-0) and Palic in the shot put (42-111?2).

Austin Neufeld finished in a three-way tie for fourth in the pole vault (10-6), while Arocha, Williams, Colton Mercer and Schneider were fourth in the 4×400 (3:41.99).

Marion turned in three fifth-place finishes: Williams, Neufeld, Devin Regnier and Mercer in the 4×800 (9:35.35), Shults in the 300 hurdles (44.66), and Arocha, Aaron Riggs, Kolton Brewer and Schneider in the 4×100 (46.51).

As a team, Marion finished fifth of 15 with 66.33 points. McPherson won with 90.

Marion CKTL?The Warriors kicked off their season at home Tuesday.

Kristen Herzet highlighted the outing by sweeping all three throws. She won the shot put (33-113?4), the discus (114-8) and the javelin (107-4). Her throw in the discus was nearly 29 feet beyond second place.

Marissa Jacobson earned two gold medals, winning the long jump (16-1) and the triple jump (35-6), while McKenzee Remmers won the 3,200 (14:06.55).

Two Warrior relays conclude Marion?s first-place finishes: Emily Schneider, Emmy Hess, Erika Hess and Samantha Richmond in the 4×100 (55.41); and Richmond, Erika Hess, Samantha Kelsey and Marissa Jacobson in the 4×400 (4:41.04).

Marion turned in six second-place finishes: Remmers in the 800 (2:42.10); Erika Hess in the pole vault (8-3); Samantha Kelsey in the 300 hurdles (56.34); Molly Hess in both the shot put (31-111?2) and the javelin (96-3); and Meggan Frese, Maria Stuchlik, Jessi Lewman and Remmers in the 4×800 (12:03.38).

These Warriors placed third: Erika Hess in the long jump (14-91?2); Frese in the 1,600 (6:50); and Kelsey in the 100 hurdles (18.92).

As a team, the Marion girls placed first of six with 186 points ahead of Hillsboro (114), Sedgwick (98), Langdon-Fairfield (63), Canton-Galva (46) and Centre (18).

Meanwhile, Bryce Shults paved the way for the boys by winning three events: the 110 hurdles (17.15), the 300 hurdles (46.09) and the pole vault (12-6).

Tyler Palic earned two gold medals, winning the shot put (40-81?2) and the discus (132-6). His throw in the discus was nearly 15 feet beyond second place.

Jack Schneider won the 100 (11.11), while Colton Mercer won the 3,200 (12:41.20) and Tyler Arocha won the long jump (19-5). Zachar Stuchlik won the triple jump (37-11?2).

Marion won all three relays: Arocha, Aaron Riggs, Kolton Brewer and Schneider in the 4×100 (47.47); Arocha, Colin Williams, Colton Mercer and Schneider in the 4×400 (4:02.74); and Austin Neufeld, Mercer, Devin Regnier and Williams in the 4×800 (10:06.93).

Five Warriors finished second: Arocha in the 400 (57.09); Williams in the 1,600 (5:27.65); Shults in the high jump (5-6); Neufeld in the pole vault (10-6); and Cade Harms in the shot put (40-3).

These athletes finished third: Harms in the javelin (113-4); Stuchlik tied for third in the high jump (5-0) and placed third in the long jump (17-101?2); and Braydin Sippel in the pole vault (8-6).

As a team, Marion topped the six-team field with 224 points ahead of Hillsboro (92), Sedgwick (80), Centre (39), Langdon-Fairfield (36) and Canton-Galva (19).

Coming?Marion was scheduled to compete Tuesday and will travel to Lindsborg for the Smoky Valley Invitational Friday.
