Warrior baseball team struggles on the road

The Marion baseball team had a mixed bag last week, splitting with Inman at home April 26 before being swept by Ell-Saline on the road Friday for a 10-6 season record.

Ell-Saline?In Game 1, Ell-Saline edged Marion, 12-10. Despite the loss, the Warriors put up a solid offensive effort.

Dylan Seacat drove in three runs, David Helmer putting up two RBIs and Cole Lewman.

Austin Pederson and Matt Sprowls contributed one RBI each.

Jacob Harper pitched 21?3 innings for the loss. He allowed seven hits and nine runs while striking out two.

Ethan Hett pitched 32?3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out four.

?We made three errors and walked two hitters in the third inning and allowed them to score six runs on four hits,? coach Roger Schroeder said.

?I continue to preach the importance of not giving away free bases to the opponent, and especially when we are playing a team with the talent we saw today.?

In Game 2, Ell-Saline handed the Warriors a 13-3 loss.

Taylor Heidebrecht scored three runs for Marion and went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Pederson pitched 42?3 innings for the loss. He allowed 11 hits and 12 runs while striking out three. Luke Steele allowed four hits and one run in one-third of an inning.

?We didn?t make good pitches and they hit us around the yard,? Schroeder said. ?On the flip side, they had a kid on the mound that really settled into a groove and made it very tough on our hitters.

?We will never be happy with two losses, but again, that was a very good team we played today. I hope our guys can take the positives from today and get ready for our next series.?

Inman? The Warriors faltered in Game 1, allowing Inman to claim a 4-3 win.

Austin Pederson gave Marion a boost with one run batted in and going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Ethan Hett pitched five innings for the loss. He allowed six hits and four runs while striking out six. Jacob Harper pitched two no-hit, shutout innings while striking out two.

?We did a poor job taking care of the ball behind our pitcher and it cost us another ball game,? coach Roger Schroeder said. ?We failed to make adjustments at the plate and the runs we were able to score were because of Inman giving us a couple of free bases.?

The Warriors rallied in the second game to secure a 5-4 win, thanks in part to the hitting of Taylor Heidebrecht and Caleb Williams.

Heidebrecht had a home run and an RBI and Williams put up two RBIs. Pederson contributed one.

Grif Case pitched seven innings for the win, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out seven.

?We got an outstanding pitching performance from Grif,? Schroeder said. ?He had command of the strike zone and was able to keep their hitters off balance and he allowed our offense to get going. Although we hit the ball better in Game 2, I was still disappointed in our effort at the plate today.

?We did a poor job of making adjustments throughout both ball games, but luckily for us, we were able to pull this one out.?

Coming? The Warriors are scheduled to travel to Hillsboro Friday for a doubleheader.

They will finish their regular season May 10 with a home game versus Hoisington.
