Waddell earns state trip, Marion Golf finishes fifth at regional

Hap Waddell led Marion golfers at the Class 2A Marion regional Monday.

Waddell carded an 18-hole score of 114, good for eighth place among a field of 43 finishers. Waddell qualified for the state golf tournament.

“Hap has improved each week,” coach Tod Gordon said. “Hap was one of the few golfers that improved on the back nine. Hap was six strokes better on the back, which made the difference. Hap won the playoff for the eighth-place medal.”

Additional results were as follows: Koby Hett finished 14th (123), Devin Soyez 21st (127), Miles Olsen 38th (154) and Anderson Waddell 40th (161).

As a team, the Warriors finished fifth of six with a score of 518, behind Blue Rapids-Valley Heights (439), Hillsboro (467), Sedgwick (471) and Goessel (484) and ahead of Inman (544).

Meanwhile, Max Caldwell represented Peabody-Burns in the Class 1A Hutchinson Central Christian regional, carding an 18-hole score of 108, good for 16th place among a field of 38 finishers.

Coming—Waddell represented the Warriors at the Class 2A state golf meet at Hesston Monday.
