Two Trojans earn all-state

Two members of the 2008 Hills?boro High School volleyball team have received state recognition in recent weeks.

Dakota Kaufman, 6-foot junior outside hitter, was named to the Class 3A all-state first team by the Kansas Volleyball Association. She also was named Class 3A Player of the Year, Class 3A first team and All-Area first team by the Hutchinson News.

Candace Weinbrenner, a 5-5 junior setter, received Class 3A honorable mention by the Hutchinson News.

As a team the Trojans finshed with a 27-12 record and a berth in the Class 3A state tournament.

Other athletes from the Mid-Central Activities Association to be feted by the KVA were Micala Jamison, a 5-10 outside hitter from Hoisington, who was named to the first team. Her teammate, senior Kayce Boxberger, a 5-7 setter, received honorable mention.

In Class 4A, sophomore Dominque Chew, a 5-8 outside hitter from Hesston, and junior Kristin Baker, a 5-6 outside hitter from Smoky Valley, received honorable mention.
