Two Bluebirds chosen for 8-man Div. II all-star game

Two members of the Goessel Bluebirds football team have been selected to play in the 28th Annual Kansas 8 Man All Star Football games June 8 in Beloit.

Trey Schmidt and Nicolas Buller, recent Goessel graduates, will play for the East squad in the Division II game at 10 a.m. at Trojan Field on North Hersey Avenue. Pregame will begin at 9:30 a.m. with introduction of the players.

Schmidt?s honors include all-league player 2011 and 2012; and Catch It Kansas Hit of the Week, 2011. His career totals include 2,729 passing yards, 52 touchdown passes, 17 interceptions, 916 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns and 225 tackles.

His parents are Joel Schmidt and Kim Lewis. He plans to attend college and play football.

Buller was a first-team all-league wide receiver his junior and senior seasons; a first-team all-district wide receiver his senior year; an all-state wide receiver as a senior.

Buller has more than 1,700 career receiving yards, 30 career touchdown receptions and has scored 200-plus points.

Goessel made the state playoffs in 2010, losing in the second round, and in 2012, losing in the first round. They were district runner-ups in 2012.

Buller, son of Darcey and Emmy Buller. He plans to attend Wichita State University and major in physical therapy.
