Trojans, Warriors go toe-to-toe in Hillsboro

For the second time in two tournaments this season, golf teams from Hillsboro and Marion divided most of the spoils of victory.

The two schools met again Thursday at the 10-school Hillsboro Invita?tional, which had been postponed one week because of rain from its original schedule.

The Trojans took the six-man title with a combined score of 527, edging the Warriors by two strokes. Marion, though, slipped past Hillsboro in the four-man competition, 324 to 325.

Hillsboro (192) and Marion (195) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the two-man competition, which was won by Wichita Collegiate (168).

In the individual race, Hills?boro?s Justin Kent (74) took first among 58 finishers, Daniel Kunantaev (79) fourth, Elliott Soyez fifth (80) and Darren Enns (92) 15th.

That foursome combined for Hillsboro?s four-man score, with Zach Magnuson (94) and Daniel Dick (98) contributing to the six-man total.

Meanwhile, Travis Hett of Marion tied Kent for the top individual score, but placed second in the standings. Jake Bredemeier (82) was seventh, Luke Gordon (84) 10th and Chase Carlson (87) 11th.

Keith Jones (84) contributed to Marion?s four-man score while Carlson teamed with Lindsay Hett (108) for the two-man total.

As it did last week, Goessel once finished close behind the leaders, placing second in the two-man competition (171), and fourth in both the four-man (380) and six-man (551) divisions.

Zach Frey led the Bluebirds with a 78, which placed him third overall. Joining Frey on the two-man team was Nathan Ensz (93). The four-man team included Cameron Voth (92), Alex Drake (94), Tyler Schmidt (94) and Sam Lehrman (100).

Peabody-Burns placed sixth in all three team divisions.

Brian Wingert (88) and Jake Watts (106) combined for a two-man score of 194 while Joseph Zappone (101), Thomas McGree (101), A.J. Jones (108) and Oliver Whitney (124) combined for a four-man total of 434. The Warriors? six-man total was 628.

Centre placed seventh in the six-man and four-man divisions and ninth in the two-man race.

Jacob Jennings (105) and Kacy Hanschu (108) combined for a two-man score of 213. Ben Krause (92), Trevor Troutt (104), Heath Hill (109) and Andy Carlson (141) produced a four-man score of 446. The Cougars? six-man score was 659.

Coming?The Trojans? next meet will be the Wichita Collegiate Invitational played at Hidden Lakes Golf Course. Tee off is set for 3 p.m.
