Trojans swept by Smoky Valley in season opener

Hillsboro first baseman Kalen Moss secures the throw from third-baseman Mesa Merrell for the second out of the sixth inning of Game 1 in the Trojans? season debut against Smoky Valley Friday at the Sports Complex. The young Trojans struggled against the Vikings, losing both games of the doubleheader. Hillsboro lost the opener, 11-0, then dropped a 16-5 decision in the nightcap. Despite the losses, coach Stephanie Sinclair said, ?Our pitching was better than maybe we thought. We are committing too many little errors, and we will work on that. Hitting will come around, too.? The Trojans were scheduled to travel Tuesday to Hoisington to take on the Cardinals. Friday they will host Lyons at the Sports Complex with the first game beginning at 4 p.m.
