The Hillsboro cross-country team launched its season Thursday at the Smoky Valley Invitational near Lindsborg.
The Trojan boys combined for 77 points to place fifth among six schools competing. Smoky Valley took first with 13 points.
Caleb Rempel led the Trojans in that race. He traversed the course in 21 minutes, 48 seconds for 11th place among 35 runners. Tucker Moss placed 20th in 23:31 and Orin Blecha was 31st in 28:22.
In the girls’ junior-senior race, Hillsboro’s lone entrant, Abby Driggers, placed sixth among 12 runners in 26:49.
In the freshman-sophomore boys’ race, Caleb Deiner placed fifth in 19:51, Tristan Reed was 14th in 21:56, Jason Latham was 27th in 24:50 and Paul Glanzer was 37th in 28:43.
In the girls’ freshman-sophomore race, Iris Klein finished ninth among 14 runners in 26:24, Millie Sechrist tied for 12th in 31:36 and Maddie Suderman was 14th in 32.22.
The Trojans girls finished fourth among the four schools competing with 41 points. Smoky Valley won with 19 points.
Coming—The Trojans will run the hills at Wamego this Saturday.
