Trojans 2nd at MCAA powerlifting event

The Hillsboro boys placed second at the Mid-Central Activities Association powerlifting competition April 21 at Sterling.

Ellinwood won the event with 32 points, with Hillsboro one point behind.

The format had each lifter compete separately in the squat, bench and clean lifts. Final placement was determined by the total weight from the three categories.

Jacob Yoder and Michael Suderman were the overall winners in the 181-pound and 198-pound classes, respectively. Yoder was first in clean (315 pounds, a new meet record) and Suderman was first in bench (290).

Finishing second in their respective weight classes were Spencer Brown at 165 pounds and Frankie Martin at 156 pounds. Martin was first in clean (215).

Joe Fisher placed third at 123 pounds and Alex Nuss was third in the heavyweight division. Fisher was first in squat (215).

Tyler Lofton was fifth in the 181-pound class and Adam Dirks sixth at 220. Dirks was first in clean (275).

Team scores were not compiled in the girls? division, but Hillsboro was well represented.

Shelby Koons placed second in the lightweight division with a lift total of 410 pounds. She won the squat at 225?50 pounds more than her nearest competitor.

Jet Skiles placed fifth in that division with a total lift of 370 pounds and Samantha Heinrichs was sixth at 360.

In the middleweight division, JuliAnne Chisholm took first overall with a total of 470 pounds and won the clean with a meet-record 180, which was 60 pounds more than the runner-up. Rachelle Goldsby was second in that class with a total of 460 pounds and won the bench with a lift of 115 and the squat with a lift of 220, which tied the meet record. Amy Neufeld was fourth with a total of 395.

In the overall power division, Alysha Claassen was third at 285, but won the bench with a meet-record lift of 145.
