The Hillsboro wrestling team went 1-2 at the Southeast of Saline duals tournament Saturday.
Hillsboro lost to the host team 51-24 and 36-33 to Russell, then defeated Wabaunsee 54-6.
?We are starting to see some guys using some solid technique, most are beginning to find what works best for them, and this past week helped expose some weak areas that we need to continue working on, as a team, and individually,? coach Scott O?Hare said.
?Right now, a couple of the most important things we need to improve on includes creating more scoring opportunities on our feet, taking advantage of scoring opportunities when they arise, and hitting things with more explosiveness.?
Council Grove? The Trojans traveled to Council Grove Thursday for a dual against the home team. The Trojans lost 51-30, but the competition wasn?t as lopsided as the score, according to coach Scott O?Hare.
?We actually wrestled fairly well,? he said. ?We gave up 30 points in forfeits while only receiving six points in return.
?Of the eight matches contested on the mat, we won half of them, all by fall. Three of the four losses were our less experienced freshman against solid opponents, and each of them competed hard. The other was a close, hard-fought, 5-4 loss by Jon Carey to the No. 6-ranked wrestler in Class 3-2-1A.?
Winning by fall were Cody Delk at 152 pounds, Levi Mendoza at 182, Nathan Simhiser at 195 and Matt Reeh at 285. Franklin Jost won by forfeit at 220.
Coming?Hillsboro will compete in the league tournament Saturday.
?These matches on Thurs?day and Saturday provided us with some good feedback to help us in preparation for the very tough CKL tournament coming up next Saturday and for the upcoming 3-2-1A regional tournament,? coach Scott O?Hare said.
