Hillsboro swept the top spot for both girls and boys at the Central Kansas Track League five-team meet April 10 at Moundridge.
The girls rolled up 118 points for their first team victory of the season. They outscored Mound?ridge (104), Halstead (80), Centre (45) and Canton-Galva (1).
The boys finished with 130 points to outdistance Halstead (124), Moundridge (72), Centre (21) and Canton-Galva (15).
?We are excited to win both girls? and boys? divisions tonight,? coach Dennis Boldt said. ?The kids brought home a great deal of hardware for their efforts.?
Freshman Emily Sechrist set a school-record time of 5 minutes, 32.6 seconds in winning the 1,600 meters and ran a leg on the winning 4×800 and 4×400 teams.
?She is a talented young lady who has only just begun making her impact in this sport,? Boldt said.
?She will find herself being challenged as we continue through our season, and it will bring out even better results in the future.?
The previous school record for the 1,600 was 5:34.6, set by JuliAnne Chisholm in 2004.
Senior Callie Serene ran on both winning relays and won the open 800 in 2:33.6.
Tara Proffitt and Karen Leihy ran on the 4×800 and Proffitt and Lakyn Johnson on the 4×400.
Ashley Bartel won the pole vault (7 feet, 5 inches) and Kiara Espada claimed Hillsboro?s other gold medal in the discus (92-2) while placing second in shot put (30-7) and javelin (78-11).
Also earning silver was Ashley Brazil in the triple jump (28-81?2) and Leihy in the 1,600 (6:07).
Bronze medals went to Taylor Vogt in the shot (29-4), Heather Mayfield in the 400 (1:13), Dallas Jost in pole vault (6-0), Leihy in the 800 (2:46) and Bartel in the 100 high hurdles (19.71).
For the boys, Josh Richert continued his winning ways, taking the 1,600 (4:56) and the 800 (2:11) while anchoring the winning 4×800 team (8:58) and running a leg on the second-place 4×400 team (3:38).
Joining him on the 4×800 were Avery Franz, Grant Knoll and Bret Mueller, with Franz Mueller and Jesse Brown rounding out the 4×100.
Additional gold medals went to Tyler Proffitt in the pole vault (11-0), Brown in the high jump (5-10), Mitchell Day in the 100 (11.16), Aaron Slater in shot put (43-0) and Shaq Thiessen in long jump (20-41?2).
Adding to the runner-up finishes were Franz in the triple jump (40-91?4), Knoll in the 1,600 (5:14), Day in the 200 (23.23) and long jump (20-0), Mueller in the 800 (2:13) and the 4×100 team of Day, Cody Craney, Brown and Thiessen (46.27).
Placing third were Proffitt in the 400 (57.14), Thiessen in the 200 (24.06), Josh Siebert in shot (36-1?2) and Nick Ediger in javelin (115-3).
?I think when you look at the marks the athletes produced tonight, you will see improvement over last week?and I felt really good about the marks we had in the first meet,? Boldt said.
Coming?This week the Trojans were scheduled to compete Tuesday at Goessel for a five-team CKTL meet that also was to include the Bluebirds, Hering?ton, Sterling and the host school, Canton-Galva.
Next Tuesday, Hillsboro will be at Marion for a CKTL meet hosted by Berean Academy.
Blue?stem and Goessel will round out the five-team field.
