Trojan tennis 1-6 at home tourney

Dylan Wiens returns the ball during the Trojan Invitational. Wiens lost  to David Loomis of Pratt, Grant Clopine of Wichita Trinity and Hayden Skaggs of Pratt in No. 2 singles.Hillsboro’s three-man tennis team combined for a 1-6 record at its second home tournament of the season April 19.

In No. 2 doubles, Jacob Isaac and Dakota Klein went 1-2 to place fourth. The Tro­jan duo opened with an 8-1 win over Eli Peck and Wyatt Reynolds of Neode­sha, then lost 8-3 to Ben Young­mark and Cody Schiffner of Abi­lene in the semifinals, then 8-5 to Freddie Loffler and Micah Miller of Hesston in the third-place match.

In No. 2 singles, Dylan Wiens lost 8-6 to David Loomis of Pratt, 8-1 to Grant Clopine of Wichita Trinity and 8-1 to Hayden Skaggs of Pratt.

The team competed in a “C” tournament at Hesston April 21. Isaac and Klein placed third in No. 1 doubles with a 2-1 record while Dylan Wiens finished fifth in No. 2 singles with a 1-2 record.

“Both Jacob and Dakota played well, and it was great to see them earn a medal and play some good tennis like I’ve always thought they could,” coach Stuart Holmes said.

Coming—The Trojans were scheduled to compete April 26 at the Hesston Invi­tational. On May 2 the team travels to Pratt for the Cen­tral Kansas League tournament.
