Trojan girls lose game to Sterling

HILLSBORO – After getting down by 11 early, the Hillsboro Girls Basketball team couldn’t climb out of the hole and lost to Sterling, 58-28. Hillsboro played just one game due to mid-season tournaments the week before.

“Friday’s game got away from us before we started,” Hillsboro Head Coach Nathan Hiebert said. “Sterling came out with more intensity, better execution and seemed with more purpose.”

Hillsboro struggled offensively the whole game, with Teegan Werth leading the team with 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists on the game. Kinsey Kleiner had nine points and three rebounds as the other leading scorer for the Trojans.

“Teegan and Kinsey have been our most consistent offensive threats. Emersyn Funk has been growing in her abilities and has brought sparks with toughness, rebounding and defense,” Hiebert said. Funk led the team with give rebounds for the game.

“A common theme is consistency and being solid all game long. We tend do things well for only portions. We started slow again in the third and failed to respond.”

Coming – Hillsboro played Smoky Valley at home on Tuesday, Jan. 29. They will play Hesston at home at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb 1.
