Trojan girls earn track meet title

Hillsboro won the girls? title and was the runner-up among the boys? teams at the five-school Central Kansas Track League meet hosted April 12 by Canton-Galva at Moundridge.

The Trojan girls led the field with 151 points, followed by Moundridge 116, Halstead 101, Centre 66 and Canton-Galva 46.

Callie Serene paced the Trojans with first-place performances in the 1,600 (6 minutes, 2 seconds) and 800 (2:41) and was a member of the first-place 4×400 team with Peyton Loewen, Erica Just and Heather Mayfield (4:56).

Hillsboro?s other gold medal came in the 4×100 as Ashley Bartel, Heather Mayfield, Maci Kelsey and Karina Torres crossed the line in 56.53 seconds.

Theo Kassebaum won Centre?s lone gold medal by winning the 100-meter hurdles (16.81)

Cayla Sommers of Canton-Galva won gold in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and 200 meters (28.75), and Angel Little won the shot put (34-5).

In the boys? division, Hills?boro scored 153 points to trail Halstead with 209, but led Mound?ridge 109, Centre 37 and Canton-Galva 16.

Joel Allen brought home gold medals for Hillsboro in the 3,200 (10:13) and 1,600 (4:51) while Bret Mueller won the 800 (2:09) and the 4×800 along with teammates Tyler Proffitt, Avery Franz and Josh Richert (9:08).

In field events, Aaron Slater won the shot put (37-6), Jesse Brown the high jump (5-6) and Jordan Riggs the javelin (141-8).

Centre?s best performance came from Cole Kristek, who placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (17:54 ) and 300-meter hurdles (49.06).

Austin Bullinger placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (49.59) to lead Canton-Galva.

Coming?Hillsboro will compete Thursday at its first large meet of the season when it travels to Halstead for the Conrad Nightingale Invitational. Competition begins at 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Trojans will host the last Central Kansas Track League meet of the season at Joel H. Wiens Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m.
