Thompson to lead Cougars

The 2016 Centre cross-country team is comprised of five runners: (from left) Jordan Miller, Emily Schlesener, CJ Thompson, Kate Basore, Tanner Wiggans.<p>The Centre cross-country team will be led by returning state qualifier CJ Thomp­son, a junior, this season.

Last year, Thompson covered the 5-kilometer course at Wamego in 20 minutes, 35.69 seconds to place 59th among 92 runners at the Class 1A race.

Joining Thompson on the boys’ team this season are returning sophomores Jordan Miller and Tanner Wiggans.

The girls’ team boasts two first-year runners: Kate Basore and Emily Schlesener, who are also members of the Centre volleyball team. Both are juniors this year.

Julie Keithline returns for her second season as head coach.

Centre will open its season Sept. 1 at Abilene.
