Seven receive all-state volleyball honors

Area schools were well-represented among the Kansas Volleyball Associa?tion all-state selections for the 2013 season with six players and one coach receiving recognition.

Three members of the state champion Hillsboro Trojans received first-team honors in Class 2A.

Danae Bina, a 5-foot-7-inch senior libero, was selected Player of the Year and coach Sandy Arnold was named Coach of the Year.

Joining Bina on the first team were teammates Addie Lackey, a 5-8 senior outside hitter, and Alex Ratzlaff, a 5-10 sophomore outside hitter.

Hillsboro finished the season with a school-best 43-1 record.

In Class 1A-Division I, two members of the state qualifying Goessel Bluebirds were recognized.

Page Hiebert, a 5-10 sophomore outside hitter, was named to the first team while Alyssa Booton, a 5-8 sophomore setter, received honorable mention.

Also receiving honorable mention was Centre senior Bryanna Svoboda, a 5-7 outside hitter.

Goessel, coached by Crysta Guhr, placed fourth at state and finished 34-11. Center, coached by Yvonne Burhoop, finished 26-10.
